Spring Has Sprung
Submitted by Joan Regan
Spring has sprung, well it is trying to. I am trying to get the paths cleaned up, leaving the gardens for awhile till they’re up a bit. I did this last year and they all seemed happier. It makes it a bit trickier, but worth it making for a happier garden. Lots more to be done while I wait.
A few years ago on one of my trips to Hamilton I was so fortunate to find three chairs, metal of some sort, but they were made to look like wicker. They were painted white. This year they’re going to be purple.
I have been painting some pots and like the look in my shady garden. And besides, I did paint a small metal chair and table set red a few years ago and I’m liking the way they look. Also have painted a few old pots and seriously looking at an old bike lime green hmmm.
Last Fall I painted some pots – some red, some purple and a couple lime green. Liking the way they look as well and as soon as it warms up enough I will put all the bling around that has spent the Winter in the green house. I have been told I have too much “stuff” but I disagree. I love my whimsical garden.
Once it warms up a bit it’s time to put a light dressing of homemade compost out. It sure looks good looking so rich. The gardens will love it and I have almost three bins of it just waiting. Compost to a garden is just like a big three scoop of Sweet Shop ice cream or a large slice of chocolate cake.
So while I am waiting for warmer days I will give my house plants their Spring feed and fresh soil if required. Just some TLC before their season of neglect starts.
Until then Happy Gardening,
Joni
