There was a birthday party in Tobermory Saturday night and what a party. Linda Bain performed her magic to provide a bright cheerful atmosphere, the lunch, put together by the Princess Hotel, was delicious and hit the spot. The music, well it had me up dancing and that’s saying a lot. As for the birthday cake, delicious; both flavours, and I speak from experience.
But what was it all about?
This occasion was organized to draw attention to the accomplishments of a citizens group, the Tobermory Health Services Auxiliary. This was the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the opening of the new medical clinic in Tobermory but this is far from the only thing that has been accomplished by this group and others like it over the years. Were it not for the activity of involved citizens, their vision, hard work, and commitment, medicine might still be being practised out of a log cabin here.
Unfortunately time has taken its toll and many of those involved in the earlier efforts have passed on, while those of us remaining are finding it more difficult and taxing. We need some fresh blood.
This organization, the Tobermory Health Services Auxiliary, provides a broad oversight of health needs for this community and district. This presents a unique opportunity for citizens to influence what is being done for the health of this community, not just medically, but in the broadest sense.
