The Third Annual Lion’s Head Pumpkin Parade will be held on November 1, 2022 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Organizer Dominic Wong is thrilled to host this event for its third year.

Wong invites Pumpkin carvers to show off their creativity and give their jack o’ lanterns another chance to shine by bringing their carved Halloween themed pumpkins to the Lion’s Head Beach Pavilion prior to or at 6 p.m. Plan to stay to see the design creations by fellow pumpkin carvers.

Starting at the Beach Pavilion, jack o’ lanterns will line the pathway winding towards the Memorial Garden and beyond.

Pumpkin Parade Tradition Continues

The Pumpkin Parade tradition originated in Toronto and with the parade being held the night after Halloween, it gave everyone another opportunity to get out and to enjoy the creative designs on the pumpkins.

Organizer Dominic Wong introduced the Pumpkin Parade in Lion’s Head in 2020. Wong first saw a Pumpkin Parade in Yellowknife and felt it would be a great community event for Lion’s Head. One of the first public events during the initial year of the COVID-19 pandemic, the first Pumpkin Parade held in Lion’s Head in 2020 was a great success.

The second Pumpkin Parade again attracted local families to come out and enjoy the illuminated jack o’ lanterns and social time with other community members.

Everyone is welcome to drop by between 6 p.m. to 7 p.m and view the display. Lion’s Head weather has been very cooperative the last two years, providing the ambiance of a dark and stormy night, so expect no difference this year. Dress appropriately for the vagaries of the Northern Peninsula weather. The event will be held whatever the weather conditions, be it snow, wind, rain or a warm autumn evening.

Candles will be provided for the jack o’ lanterns. Wong hopes to provide appropriate pre-recorded scary music. All pumpkins will be collected and composted after the event.
