The annual Terry Fox Run took place in Lion’s Head on September 18, 2022. Blowing past their fundraising goal of $12,000, the organizers Anna and Adam Martens are pleased with the community support of raising more than $17,000 at the event.
There were 72 participants registered online or at the in-person event at Bruce Peninsula District School (BPDS) in Lion’s Head. The event started at 1:00 p.m. with Adam Martens welcoming all the participants and thanking long-time organizers Vicki and Roger Stevens and those who were long-time participants.
Since Adam had already run the 10 km route earlier, and was manning a water station for the event, a group of five young cyclists led the Run heading to Main Street and up to Isthmus Bay. The participants walked, ran or biked. Persons of all ages including many young families participated in the event.
Typically a 10 km distance, participants had a choice to do all or any distance they preferred. Water stations and markers were set out at the 2.5 km and 5 km marks.
To celebrate the end of the event, participants enjoyed hot dogs personally donated by Kara and Kyle Hellyer.
