We are trying something new again! “Drop In Tuesday” at 1:00 pm is a free unorganized afternoon. Drop in, play some games or cards, or just chit chat over a coffee, bring a friend. This is a great opportunity for members, or prospective members, to use the hall.
We had a great time at our first “Drop In Tuesday” playing some crib, some hand and foot, and a little bit of Bid Euchre. A couple of us particularly like hand and foot, so if there’s any more players out there please come out on a Tuesday afternoon.
Mondays have become quite busy, usually with about eight tables or 32 people playing cards. What a great way to spend an afternoon.
And of course, our Fridays are still happening with anywhere from 4 to 6 tables.
We had our Anniversary Turkey Dinner which was a great success. We’d like to think Tim Hayes and the bottle return for help with that dinner. We received an award presented by Sharon Colter from the Council on Ageing for our activities within the community of Northern Bruce. Many thanks for that and to all the volunteers who made that happen within the club.
Our club does many activities from soup lunches to full dinners, cards, euchre, bid euchre, bridge, line dancing, and now drop in Tuesday. We just had our first free games day which was so much fun with everyone getting lunch and a prize for participating. Our Bid Euchre had a free lunch before playing for Canada Day.
We are a year-round club, so whether you’re a senior or a young person we have room for you. Our membership is around 100 now, making us one of the largest clubs on the peninsula. The level of activity you want to be involved in is your choice; just coming out to lunch or supper, or volunteering because you have a little bit of time on your hands, we would love to have you. Over the years we have created life-long friendships – just this year alone I have met many new people/new friends who have lived here for many years and are now just getting out.
If you are looking for something to do in NBP but are busy for the summer, try us in September. We hope to have a full calendar of our events available after our September meeting. If you’d like to come to the meeting we are always looking for new suggestions. Thinking of going to the Roxy but are on your own or don’t drive? Or just a movie in Owen Sound? Come out to a meeting – maybe there are more who are sitting at home thinking the same thing.
We live in a unique area where as we age we don’t have the same opportunity to get to these things; no taxis or buses, so when you are sitting there bored think about others in the same situation and come out and make a suggestion or give us a call and we will try and help each other.
