I guess it is easy to be frustrated at times with our local elected officials. But then I ask myself: could I do a better job?
The clear answer is: No!
I couldn’t deal with the bullying approach of groups at meetings, after preparing in a patient, diligent manner a prudent approach to important matters for most.
I couldn’t deal with the silence put upon myself, simply because I run an honest business up here on the Bruce, which sadly disqualifies me of fulfilling my duties as the representative of my people, since this would be a “conflict of interest” (even though proposed rules would make my own life a bit more difficult).
I most certainly couldn’t deal with the fact that anonymous people/groups can bring forward complaints against me and remain anonymous, while I have to be open about everything; seems somewhat unequal.
I wouldn’t do all this for the somewhat mediocre salary, which most certainly doesn’t allow me to make a living. Hence my “side job/business” which then disqualifies me from fulfilling my duties. See above.
Bravo to our Council and Mayor to deal with this stuff on a daily basis. I couldn’t do it!
