In The Garden: Hints from a Mrs Gardener Ho Ho Ho, We Got Snow!

Santa is coming along with winter. Sure hope everyone has their gardens put to bed for their long winter’s nap. Hope it’s not too long though.

We got our first blanket of snow and it sure looked pretty outside. Thankful I got the large planters and the red sap buckets full of greenery and some seasonal bling, sure looks pretty with the snow. Last year I was too late and all the greenery had to be just laid on the pots.

Meanwhile, inside, my pretty ceramic tree – the white one is close to sixty years old now – is looking so pretty. A xmas gift from Pete’s mom on one of our first Christmases. It is always the first thing out. Another green ceramic one with her branches of white snow is in the back room, also a gift from a friend who is no longer with us.

A friend dropped off some red willow and it’s looking so festive in the outside planters – a nice touch with the cedar branches. Meanwhile, inside the Christmas Cactuses are still looking pretty, although all three have finished blooming. They’re definitely Autumn Cactuses, not Christmas ones, and they’re sitting on a table in the bedroom waiting patiently for their return in the New Year.

In late summer I gave all my house plants a shot of fertiliser and they said thank you by perking up and looking festive as well. They do tend to get neglected this time of the year. A few spend the summer outside and I actually remembered to bring them back in before the first frost. Hmmm maybe that’s the reason they’re so happy.

Our back gardens are looking so festive with their blanket of snow, the snow tires are on, there is snow, it is pretty outside. Keep safe everyone.

Merry Christmas and all the very best for the New Year.

Happy Gardening (inside),

Joni
