Rotary Club of Northern Bruce Peninsula: A World Without Service Clubs

Just over a week ago, ‘crane day,’ in Lion’s Head, my wife and I drove to the beach, parked, and began to walk towards the harbour to watch the huge crane lift boats into the water. As we walked past the beach I saw the children’s playground equipment that Rotary had put there in conjunction with the Municipality and several other service organizations. I remembered the year we did that we had placed the same equipment at the local Day Care and at the Ferndale Park. We had worked very hard to obtain a Trillium Grant to make that happen.

Continuing on we walked past the beach picnic shelter which, once again, Rotary had worked to create years ago and, quite recently, invested another $15,000 dollars worth of renovations to improve it considerably. I thought, ‘What would it be like if the world did not have Service Clubs?’

I drive into my village and see a sign indicating Rotary, Lions, Lioness and Legion and think about the wonderful contributions these organizations have made to our community. I see the Rotary Hall. I see our hospital. I see our local school. I see our day care and Golden Dawn and remember the part Rotary played to support each of them.

In Tobermory I see the clinic, the Rotary Parkette…. no matter where we go, Service Clubs have made the world a better place.

Therefore, I can tell you how proud I have been to be both a Rotarian for 30 some years and a Lion for years before that. I am proud my wife Darlene is in the Hospital Auxiliary. I am proud that we have friends in Lioness and Lions. I’m proud of the wonderful work done by our local Legions.

Service organizations put ‘life’ into a community. They always strive to make things better. I urge you to look around and see what the service clubs of the Northern Bruce have done and be proud as well.

Rotary To Host Virtual Pancake Breakfast July 1-5

ALL FUNDS WILL GO TO THE LOCAL FOOD BANKS

Service Clubs cannot do these wonderful things alone. They need you, the public, to support our undertakings. We continue to try to meet our commitments even in these times of Covid-19. To do so, we have had to try some very interesting approaches to raising funds so that we can help the Golden Dawn, continue our wonderful Scholarship and Awards recognitions at the local High School, help the Day Care and continue to support the Food Bank and the many other groups that depend on us.

Within days after our last ‘Virtual Pancake Breakfast,’ we were able to respond to the needs at Golden Dawn for flowers to brighten the spring and summer for residents and staff alike.

WE ARE HAVING OUR SECOND VIRTUAL PANCAKE BREAKFAST FROM JULY 1ST TO 5TH AND URGE YOU TO GET INVOLVED. This time all funds raised will go to our local food banks in our area.

It’s quite simple. Host a pancake meal for your family. Send us some pictures we can post on Facebook. Send us a cheque made out to the Rotary Club of Northern Bruce Peninsula and address it to NBP Rotary, 59 Main Street, Box 305, Lion’s Head, Ontario, N0H 1W0 or you can arrange an e-transfer to our e-mail account at nbprotary@gmail.com.

Last time it was fun. People sent us recipes to post and pictures of their family together enjoying a meal. Many involved friends in their personal projects as well. Please consider this. We would LOVE to be back at the picnic shelter cooking pancakes and sausages but that isn’t possible just yet and we have many causes to support. We need you.
