On Friday, May 8, 2020 at 3:00 p.m. Branch 290 held a ceremony at the cenotaph to commemorate the 75th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day. The ceremony was held with social distancing in mind and the weather co-operated by being blustery with flurries. Despite all of that, or in spite of it, there were approximately 20 spectators social distancing and/or in their vehicles. Thank you to all who came out and did so safely; an enormous thank you to Kathryn Forbes, piper.
V. E. Day and other dates to commemorate are important and it is humbling to witness all of the individuals in this community who do so without question.
At the time of this writing, unfortunately, there has been another death of a Canadian Armed Forces member. Sadly, on May 17, in Kamloops, B. C. while the iconic Snowbirds were on a cross country tour to raise Canadian spirits during Covid-19, one of the jets crashed killing Capt. Jennifer Casey and seriously injuring Capt. Richard MacDougall. Our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Capt. Casey and wishes to Capt. MacDougall on a full recovery. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and yours.

Repairs at the Branch
Many will have noticed that there is work going on outside of the branch. Boyle Concrete is replacing the ramp at the side of the building so that it is safe. This ramp does double duty as access to the branch and as a right of way for the municipality. Also at this time, much needed maintenance/repairs are being undertaken at the back of the building to keep the water out. Thank you to Sean Hurst for being the point person on this project, plus the brawn, and thank you to Matt Gowland for adding more brawn by removing patio stones.
The weather is getting warmer and more in keeping with the season and hopefully we will all be able to meet up soon to walk on the new ramp. Until then please stay safe, healthy and sane.
