At the time of this printing we will have been in self isolation for 2 months. Sometimes it feels like 2 years and at other times it doesn’t seem so long. That is the fickleness of time and the perceived duration of it depends on what is going on in our lives at any given moment.

While we have all been concerned with the pandemic, staying safe and healthy, hoping that family, friends and neighbours remain safe and healthy, concern over finances and jobs; it is easy to forget that the world keeps on turning. Unfortunately, we have all been reminded of this in the past few weeks.

Many will have noticed that the flags at both the cenotaph and branch are at half mast; this is to honour, respect and remember the 6 Canadian Armed Forces members who were killed while on a mission with NATO in the Ionian Sea off the coast of Greece. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families of Capt. Kevin Hagin; Capt. Brenden Ian MacDonald; Capt. Maxime Miron-Morin; Master Cpl. Matthew Cousins; Sub-Lt. Abbigail Cowbrough and Sub-Lt. Matthew Pyke. “We will remember them.”

Also, our hearts, prayers and thoughts of our caring community go out to Nova Scotians and the families of the 22 Canadians who were senselessly murdered. These were just ordinary people like all of us who were going about their lives when tragedy struck. Perhaps the lessons to be learned from everything going on in this world is to live each day fully, be kind and take care of one another.

Please stay safe, healthy and sane.
