Wow! On the worst winter evening, for weather, on The Bruce this year, February 15th, almost 50 “hardy” souls turned out to enjoy the Valentine’s Dinner at the Lion’s Head Legion on Highway 6. The evening was a huge success, with many donations to the Silent Auction and the drawing of the $1,000.00 raffle, all in aid of funds to build the Wheel Chair Accessible Washroom.
The dinner was achieved by the tireless work of Wayne and Barbara Morningstar, ably assisted by Dave and Susan Uren. Not only the cooking and preparation of the Cabbage Roll Dinner, but the horrendous task of kitchen clean up at the end of the event. They then had to drive home on Highway 6 that had been closed due to the “white out” conditions.
At time of writing this article, we know that all attendees arrived home SAFE, but much delayed!
The Dinner was also supported by wonderful desserts provided by fellow Legion Members.
The Silent Auction, which included items donated by numerous Legion Members, was a success due to the donations of gifts from local merchants. Lion’s Head and District are proud to have such generous supporters for numerous charitable events that occur in our area.
The list of donors is critical, as we should endeavour, as much as possible, to support them. They include: The Dandy Lion, Aunt Donkey’s, Rachel’s Diner, Hellyer’s Foodland, Scott’s Home Hardware, Peninsula Pet Supplies, Ferndale Corner Convenience and UPI, Mom’s Pizza, Bear Tracks, Peninsula Appliances and TV’s, Katemma’s Diner, Wilson Home Building Supplies, Owen Sound Peninsula Ford, Louise’s Hair Care and Peninsula Pharmacy.
At the conclusion of the evening, the draw took place for the $1,000.00 raffle. It was won by Lorna Lavergne of Owen Sound, who is a very frequent visitor to the Northern Bruce Peninsula.

Executive Member Appointed Chair of Veterans and Seniors
The Lion’s Head Legion Executive are proud to congratulate fellow Executive Member Nancy Alleyne, who works tirelessly for Veterans, who has now been appointed as “Chair of Veterans and Seniors” for both Legion Zone and District. This is a huge responsibility, but we are sure that Nancy will work as hard in these new responsibilities as she does within our own community. Nancy is available to Veterans who would like a visit, she is best contacted by her cell phone 206-974-2505.
