Healthy Smiles Ontario
Healthy Smiles Ontario is a government-funded dental program that provides free preventive, routine, and emergency dental services for children and youth 17 years old and under. The program includes regular visits to a licensed dental provider and covers the costs of treatment including:
-check-ups -scaling
-cleaning -tooth extraction
-fillings (for a cavity) -x-rays
-urgent or emergency dental care (including treatment of a child’s toothache or tooth pain)
First Visit by First Birthday
We are also offering for parents to bring children in to the clinic for the first dental visit if they have not yet seen a dental provider. We encourage a first dental check up by one year of age. Because early childhood tooth decay can begin as soon as teeth erupt, assessing oral health is important to do as soon as infants have teeth. During the first visit you can expect a quick check up of the teeth, as well as important information about caring for primary teeth, teething, diet etc.
If parents have questions about the clinic or the Healthy Smiles Ontario program in general, or to book into the clinic, they are encouraged to contact the Grey Bruce Health Unit directly at 519-376-9420 (extension 8 for the dental department).
