The graduation ceremony for Grade 12 graduates of Bruce Peninsula District School (BPDS) was held at the School on Thursday, June 25th. Members of the Rotary Scholarships Committee (Gwen Bestard, Doug Embleton, and your Rotary reporter Rob Hiscott) attended to celebrate with the graduating class and to present four Rotary scholarships/award valued at $1,500 each to support BPDS graduates pursue post-secondary studies.

Your local Rotary Club has supported graduates of BPDS in their pursuit of post-secondary studies through scholarships and awards since 1972, over half a century!

This year, the ‘Highest Academic Proficiency’ Scholarship (going to the graduating student with the highest Grade 12 average) went to Bronwyn Stanton who will enter the Social Sciences/Sociology program at Western University in Fall 2026.

The Bob Spearing ‘Service Above Self’ Scholarship (going to a student whose community volunteer and extra-curricular activities best exemplify our Rotary motto of ‘Service Above Self’) was presented to Carly Burbridge who will enter the program in Environmental Sciences at University of Calgary this coming fall.

The Keith Hopkinson Memorial Scholarship (going to a graduate proceeding into a post-secondary program in a medical, health or related field) was presented to Erica Thompson who will pursue the Registered Practical Nurse program at Georgian College beginning this fall.

The Mary Cameron Award for ‘Most Improved Student’ (going to the graduating student who has shown the most improvement over the course of their high school studies) was presented to Ellie Robbins – Ellie will enter the Social Sciences/Psychology program at University of Toronto after completing a year experience as a Rotary Exchange Student in Belgium.

Congratulations to all graduates in the ‘Class of 2026’ of Bruce Peninsula District High School! More photos from the BPDS Graduation Ceremony can be found on our Club website at www.rotarynbp.org/photoalbums/rotary-scholarships-2026

The second of four community Pancake Breakfasts was held at the Rotary Hall on the morning of Sunday, July 5th with 120 customers being served. Rotarians and Friends of Rotary prepared the breakfast ingredients (mixing and grilling pancakes and scrambled eggs, grilling seasoned hash browns and pork sausages) at the lower level of the Hall, while our servers dished out delicious breakfasts for customers in the Main Hall.

Rotary thanks our individual and corporate sponsors who generously donate product and money to help defray our costs of putting on these breakfast events, allowing us to return more of the proceeds back to the community of Northern Bruce Peninsula!

We hope to see you at our next Pancake Breakfast at Rotary Hall! More photos from this most recent Pancake Breakfast can be found at www.rotarynbp.org/photoalbums/pancake-breakfast-july-5-2026

Our third Rotary community Pancake Breakfast will be held during the August Civic Holiday weekend, on Sunday, August 2nd, at Rotary Hall (59 Main Street, Lion’s Head). Come check out the newly-renovated Rotary Hall with a finished street-side patio with bistro chairs and tables for dining outside (along with picnic tables on the adjacent lot).

Additional seating was available both inside the now fully air-conditioned Rotary Hall, and outside at picnic tables set up on the adjacent property.

If you prefer to eat your breakfast inside, tables and chairs are set up in the now fully air-conditioned Main Hall! We hope you can come join us for a delicious breakfast of buttermilk & vanilla pancakes with real maple syrup, scrambled eggs, pork sausages, seasoned hash browns, orange juice and coffee/tea, served by Rotarians and Friends of Rotary.

We’re proud to serve an ‘environmentally-friendly’ pancake breakfast with minimal waste! Hope to see you there!

Once again, Rotarians will team up with members of the Peninsula Bruce Trail Club for another ‘Butt Blitz’ event on the morning of Friday, July 17th at 10 AM starting out at Lion’s Head Beach. Please join us that morning to help clean up cigarette butts and other debris along the Beach and proximate sections of the Bruce Trail! Help keep the Bruce clean and beautiful!

And finally, Friday Pub Nights at the Rotary Hall will continue on Friday, July 17th and 31st from 7:00 PM until late in the evening. In addition to a wide range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, a variety of snacks are available at Rotary Pub Nights. Please join us for fun Friday Pub Nights at the Rotary Hall!
