Letter: MNBP Accepts Climate Action Plan – Thank You!

818

I would like to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to everyone who has contributed to the visionary Climate Action Plan so eloquently presented in the May 17, 2022 edition of the Bruce Peninsula Press.

The 5 Pillars of the Plan simply state what we must do by 2030 in order to mitigate any further damage to our already fragile and suffering ecosystem. If we can each take responsibility for some actions suggested in the Plan, not only will we improve life for all species here and now but begin a future where the word ‘reciprocity’ has meaning again.

Reciprocity is the giving back involved when a gift is given. Humans have been given a gift of this peninsula. Our indigenous peoples’ profound respect for all living beings is inherent in the giving of thanks before any life [plant or animal] is taken for their use. Along with the gift comes the responsibility to ensure that the resource is maintained. ‘Never take more than you need and never take more than half of what there is’, seems a reasonable, sustainable and respectful way to live.

I sincerely hope everyone who calls this place home can encourage the MNBP to not only accept the Climate Change Plan but direct all of its resources to realizing it.

Sincerely,

Judi MacLeod
