Local community members embraced the second annual Checkerboard Challenge and donated $81,319 to the Bruce Peninsula Hospitals Foundation, The funds raised are earmarked for a major renovation of the Brightshores Wiarton Medical Device Reprocessing Department (MDRD) and to support the purchase of five ceiling lifts for the Regional ICU.
On 26 June 2026, there was a steady flow of community members to the live broadcast of 91.9/97.9 The Bruce, in downtown Lion’s Head at The Shops of 84 Main. Radio hosts Longy and Bruffer kept the day flowing smoothly. Donors dropped by with cash or cheques in hand, there was live music by local musicians while neighbours and friends hung out enjoying the lively atmosphere.
There was an additional live broadcast by CFOS89.3 in Wiarton.
In addition this this fundraising event, the 91.9/97.9 The Bruce’s 5th anniversary birthday bash held at the Lion’s Head Arena on June 6, 2026 raised $5,000 for the Bruce Peninsula Hospitals Foundation.

He says $101 billion is allocated to Ontario’s health care budget and emphasized the important role of the local Hospitals Foundation which fundraises for hospital equipment. He congratulated the community on their fundraising efforts.
