Congratulations to Dan Forbes, winner of the 2026 Bruce Peninsula Telephone Directory Cover Photo Contest. His photo of a Northern Saw-Whet Owl was chosen as the best of many local photos submitted this year.
“On March 27, 2025 at 7:15am, we finished having our regular morning coffee at Sally’s [in Tobermory], heading back to our home when I saw this cute tiny owl sitting in a tree.” said Dan’s wife Katie. “We had our three dogs with us, so I was scared that they would frighten the owl away. I took the dogs away and Dan was able to get extremely close with my Samsung Ulta phone and take this amazing picture.”
Tobermory Press donates $300 to the winner’s charity of choice. Dan has chosen the Venus Community Cats project as the recipient.
“We would like to donate the money to the Venus Community Cats project, as we have adopted a cat from this organization and would like to continue to help stray cats on the Peninsula.” said Dan and Katie.
The Venus Community Cats project (formerly the Venus Cat Family Project) has been working to control the stray cat population in Lion’s Head. To date, more than 65 community cats and kittens have been fixed.
Their facebook page states “Now that the Venus Cat Family Project is coming to a successful end, we are expanding our goals and shifting our focus to controlling population growth of community cats on the Bruce Peninsula.”
You can visit their newly updated website https://venuscats.ca to find out how you can support their cause, or visit their facebook page https://www.facebook.com/venuscats.on
The Bruce Peninsula Telephone Directory is mailed to every home and business on the Bruce Peninsula from Tobermory to Hepworth. 12,000 directories are being distributed this year.
Thank you to everyone who submitted photos for consideration and congratulations to our winner, Dan!
