Lion’s Head Marina prepares for winter, as 57 boats were lifted out of the water and stored on their cradles at the Marina, or removed to their winter storage areas.
The two-day Crane day event took place on 10 and 11 October 2025 and marks the end of the 2025 sailing season. Vanwyck Crane Services of Owen Sound lifted the boats out of the water, aided by a slew of volunteers.
Each boat requires 6 helpers to secure the boat in the harness, guide the boat to the cradle and ensure it is safely settled.
Boat owners and crew members assisted each other in the successful extraction of the boats from the water over the two days. On the Saturday morning rain and strong winds posed a challenge, but nothing that the volunteers could not handle, says Kacy, owner of the sailboat Camista. Kacy explained that strong persons were needed to hold the line as the boat was being lifted and guided to its winter spot. Kacy was on hand to marshall the volunteers and ensure the boats were lined in the order they were to be lifted out that morning.
