The 5th Annual Rug Show and Tea hosted by “Hooked on the Bruce” showcased approximately 160 handmade items. Held at the Friendship Club in Lion’s Head on 2 August, 2025, the art of rug hooking was shown in various creations including rugs, wall hanging, coasters, pillows, purses, wreaths and other decorative items.

There was a steady flow of patrons coming to see the beautiful pieces of hand crafted art. Many of the patrons marvelled at the variety of items made using traditional rug hooking techniques. The show has grown in popularity drawing visitors from both sides of the Peninsula, from throughout Grey Bruce and the nearby urban centres of London, Hamilton. Kitchener and the GTA. One visitor was excited to see the display after hearing about the show at the Lion’s Head Farmers’ Market. Another visitor from Philadelphia was specially invited by her relatives who had visited the show last year. She bemoaned the fact that she was so far away as she would have loved to join the local group.

Patrons were able to chat with the “Hooked on the Bruce” members, learn about their pieces, get advice on various rug hooking techniques and try their hand at rug hooking. Show organizers were thrilled to display some vintage pieces which belong to their members.

Many patrons enjoyed the opportunity to sit, relax and enjoy tea, coffee or lemonade, sandwiches and sweet treats.

“Hooked on the Bruce” has 29 members and is a branch of the Ontario Hooking Craft Guild (OHCG). Beginners and new members are always welcomed. The group meets every Tuesday at the Friendship Club in Lion’s Head from 1 p.m. – 3 p.m.
