The BBQ held on May 22nd was a success in two ways – it was an opportunity to raise awareness about Food Insecurity in the World and our own Community, and due to the support it received, an amazing fundraiser for the Tobermory Food Bank. Businesses were able to order Hot Dogs and Beverages ahead of the day and have them delivered on May 22nd for staff to enjoy. As well, folks could drop by Peacock’s where the BBQ was happening to enjoy Hot Dogs and a beverage.

Thank you to Rick Peacock who once again generously offered the space to set up the BBQ.

Thanks to the generosity of the businesses and individuals over $1,200.00 was raised. These monies will help us continue our work assisting those most in need in our community. There was a time when we had shortened hours during July and August, but as Food Insecurity has increased, we have kept our regular hours during those months. Our hours are every Tuesday between 1 -3 p.m. at the Meeting Place.

BBQ Fundraiser June 14th

If you missed getting a Hot Dog at our last BBQ, we will be back on Saturday June 14th between 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. at the Parkette by the Harbour, during the Chi-Cheemaun Festival. Please come by and say hello to our volunteers who will BBQ and serve Hot Dogs and Beverages again by donation.

We could not operate without our volunteers who do many things. Pick up Second Harvest items from Peacock’s, take a shift on Tuesdays serving clients and come out to help with our special events like the recent and upcoming BBQ. If you are interested in volunteering go to our website tobermoryfoodbank.ca for contact information or you can call Linda at 519-596-2333.

Donations keep the Food Bank going. Grocery items can be dropped off at the Tobermory Post Office, the Community Centre or at the Food Bank during its hours of operation. All grocery items are appreciated, but we know pets are part of families and donations of pet food are welcome. Or if you have had to change the food for your own pet, any unused amount can be donated and it will be re-packaged for distribution. If you wish to donate monies you can send a cheque, made out to Tobermory Food Bank, to P.O. Box 144, Tobermory N0H 2R0 or do an e-transfer to tobermoryfoodbank@gmail.com or you can make a cash donation at Peacock’s Foodland. Tax receipts are given for donations over $20.

Hope to see you on June 14th for a Hot Dog and drink at the Harbour. Just follow the enticing smell of fried onions.
