In a move that promises to elevate the curling experience for members, the Lion’s Head and District Curling Club has recently invested not only in two sets of “new to club” curling stones but also a state-of-the-art ice nibbler.
For new and experienced curling enthusiasts in the area, this development marks a significant step forward in the club’s commitment to fostering the sport of curling in the community.
The equipment was sourced from Canada Curling Stone in Komoka. A leader in curling stone manufacturing since 1992, Canada Curling Stone is renowned for its quality and craftsmanship, meticulously refurbishing and reconditioning curling stones, breathing new life into these essential pieces of equipment. The process involves sanding, polishing, and precision calibration to ensure that each stone glides smoothly and accurately across the ice.
What sets this upgrade apart is the addition of an ice nibbler, a sophisticated piece of machinery designed to maintain the ice surface in prime condition. The nibbler’s precision cutting technology allows for smoother and more consistent ice, greatly enhancing the curling experience.
Club president, George Hambleton, expressed his excitement about the purchase, saying, “We are very excited about the new refurbished stones, along with the ice nibbler. It will undoubtedly enhance the curling experience at our club and we’re confident that our players will notice the difference immediately.”
Playing on 5 curling sheets on the arena ice every Monday night through the winter, the club has started by replacing 2 sheets of rocks with a plan to replace the others over the next 2 years. The acquisition of the refurbished curling rocks and the ice nibbler not only benefits the club’s regular Monday night players, but also those that come from the area to participate in bonspiels throughout the year.
The club is gearing up for a season filled with newfound excitement and improved performance on the ice. New curlers are welcome to attend the free learn to curl and registration night at the Lion’s Head arena Monday, October 23 at 7 p.m. Interested people can connect with the club on Facebook or call or text Betty at 416-805-5830. All are welcome – new and experienced curlers alike.
