The Lion’s Head Hospital has been gifted significant funding from longtime summer residents of Tobermory, Carl & Pat Churchill and their family. The $31,000 donation was made in loving memory of the first generation of Churchills to put down roots in North Bruce Peninsula in the mid 1950s; Carl’s parents, Earl & Elsie Churchill.
Spending nearly 70 summers here on the Peninsula has meant many trips to the Lion’s Head Hospital, from minor scrapes and bruises to more serious illnesses. Giving back to the hospital which has provided such excellent care for all generations of the Churchill family was the motivation behind their wonderful gift.
“As Chair of Bruce Peninsula Hospitals Foundation, I have the pleasure of thanking donors for their support of our hospitals,” shared Kevin Walsh, adding, “I am continuously humbled and inspired by the generosity of so many members of our communities on the Peninsula. Once again, my recent visit with the Churchill family did not disappoint. We are so grateful for wonderful seasonal residents like the Churchill’s who support their home hospital as well as their ‘home away from home’ hospital.”
The $31,000 is purchasing a new Bladder Scanner which is a diagnostic aid to measure PVR (post void residual) volumes and prevent unnecessary catheterization in patients, and is an important piece of equipment for emergency departments; two patient monitoring vital signs machines; and two holter monitors which are wearable devices that are a type of ambulatory electrocardiogram that records your heart’s rhythm and rate activity.
