Stewart, Orville – of Stokes Bay, passed peacefully, with his family by his side, at Grey Bruce Health Services Lion’s Head on Wednesday May 24, 2023. Orville John Stewart at the age of 88 years. Devoted husband and best friend of Norma (nee Hawke) for 67 years. Proud father of Patty McLay, of Miller Lake, Teresa and her husband Dave Shearer, of Stokes Bay, and Myrna and her husband Paul McLean, of Georgian Bluffs. Cherished grandfather of Anne McLay, Megan McLay (Ryan Gilbert), Carly Stewart, Kelsey Shearer (Andrew London), and Cori Fletcher (McCloud); and great-grandfather of Jakob, Scarlet, Connor, and Grayson. Brother of Kalvin Stewart (Anita); and brother-in-law of Beulah Stewart. Predeceased by his parents Charlie Stewart and Bernice (nee Greig); brother, Irwin “Babe” Stewart; grandson, Anthony McLay; brothers-in-law Clifford Hawke, and Joe Hawke (Dorothy); and sisters-in-law Betty Weatherhead (Bill), Donalda “Nean” McArthur (Earl), and Mary Dale Hewton (Duncan). Orville was born in Lion’s Head in 1934. He began his 35-year career with Ontario Hydro as a Linesman in Owen Sound and retired as Area Foreman in Lion’s Head. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved working in his bush lot, cutting firewood and making maple syrup. He was a talented woodworker, creating beautiful furniture, toys, and carvings. Orville was active in the community and spent many hours helping to improve the Stokes Bay Community Centre and Stokes Bay Cemetery. The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the staff at Lion’s Head hospital for their compassionate care and support.
