Described as an exhilarating brisk morning where one could not go wrong wearing winter hats and mitts, the community turned out to support their local producers and to stock up on fresh seasonal vegetables and their favorite products on opening day May 20th.

The Lion’s Head Farmers’ Market, a popular spot to get fresh vegetables, baked goods and a range of locally produced products, has many of the long-time favorite vendors returning for the season, as well as some new vendors. There are 36 full-time and occasional vendors participating for the 2023 season.

For the opening weekend, there was fresh lettuce and other seasonal produce, heritage seeds, cut flowers and arrangements. Fresh artisan bread and freshly brewed coffee was available. Those looking for sweet treats could indulge themselves with butter tarts, brownies, cookies, squares, scones, fruit pies and hand-made chocolates. Savory pastries and quiches were also available. There was craft beer, maple syrup, BBQ sauces, marinades and honey. Other specialty products include soaps, pottery, woodturning items, lavender products, soy candles, socks and yarn made from Alpaca fibre, jewelry, handmade felt items and artworks.

A new food vendor “The Coconut Bankers Ball – Its a Wrap” offered gourmet grilled sandwiches, freshly cooked to order. Chef Rob was busy serving up sausage and egg on a bun and bacon and egg flatbread wrap for hungry patrons enjoying breakfast at the market.

The Market Band was back, to the delight of market goers. The Band’s tent is located just outside the Market near the Outdoor Canadiana Muskoka Lounge. Patrons can enjoy various genres of music, while chatting with friends and relatives and/or enjoying breakfast or snacks purchased at the market.

The Market will be open every Saturday until Thanksgiving weekend, at “the beach” in and next to the beach pavilion in Lion’s Head from 9 a.m. until noon and on the long weekends until 1 p.m..
