December 1st, 2022 – Bruce Peninsula Hospitals Foundation (BPHF)is pleased to share that an impressive $2,743 has been raised over the summer during the Community Donation Drive at the Wiarton and Sauble Beach Beer Stores. “We are very grateful to the staff for organizing this fundraiser for our local hospitals, and to the patrons of the Wiarton and Sauble Beach Beer Stores who generously donated their bottles to the drive,” said BPHF Executive Director, April Patry. She added “the proceeds will go towards a piece of technology called Powerchart for Oncology; it will better assist patients who need urgent care, and who are also fighting cancer.”
Powerchart for Oncology is an electronic module for storing oncology-related patient information in their health records. This will be a big change for both cancer patients, and physicians in our Emergency Departments. For example, if a cancer patient arrives at the Wiarton or Lion’s Head Hospital in need of urgent care, the treating physician will be able to quickly and easily access the patient’s oncology notes on medications, treatment, etc. Currently, the ED physician must request a consult with the oncologist to get the patient’s oncology notes.
Thanks to the support of donors and fundraising events like the Community Donation Drive, this technology will soon provide a seamless process for healthcare professionals to aid in faster diagnosis and more timely care for patients.
