Bruce Peninsula OPP Report: Firearms Investigation in Northern Bruce Peninsula – OPP Seize Two Firearms And Ammunition

 (NORTHERN BRUCE PENINSULA, ON) – On October 20, 2020, members of Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Crime Unit and OPP Forensic Identification Services (FIS), under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB), executed a search warrant at a property at Walter Charman Drive, Northern Bruce Peninsula. OPP officers seized a rifle, a handgun, and ammunition.

On October 26, 2020, the Grey Bruce OPP Crime Unit arrested and charged a 54 year old, from Northern Bruce Peninsula with the following offences;

-2 counts of unauthorized possession of a firearm, section 91(1) Criminal Code (CC)

-2 counts of breach of firearm regulations – storage of firearms, section 86(2) CC

-Possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition, section 95(b) CC

The accused was released on an Undertaking and is required to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on January 7, 2021.

OPP EXECUTE SEARCH WARRANT IN WIARTON

(SOUTH BRUCE PENINSULA, ON) – On October 8, 2020 at 8:54 p.m., members of Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and Grey Bruce OPP Community Street Crime Unit executed a search warrant at a residence at William Street in Wiarton. 

As a result of the search warrant, police seized a firearm, a pellet rifle, brass knuckles, tools and several other stolen items.

As a result of this investigation, Grey Bruce OPP have charged a 22 year old of South Bruce Peninsula, with the following offences:

-Break, enter a place – commit indictable offence, section 348(1)(b) Criminal Code of Canada (CC)

-Two counts of unauthorized possession of weapon, contrary to section 91(2) CC

-Two counts of possession of property obtained by crime, under $5,000, section 355(b) CC

Grey Bruce OPP have also charged a 30 year old of Wiarton, with the following offences:

-Break, enter a place – commit indictable offence, section 348(1)(b) CC

-Unauthorized possession of weapon, contrary to section 91(2) CC

-Possession of property obtained by crime, under $5,000., section 355(b) CC

Both of the accused were released on an Undertaking and they are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on November 26, 2020. 

THREE CHARGED WITH DRUG OFFENCES

(SOUTH BRUCE PENINSULA, ON) – On October 18, 2020, Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched to a suspicious vehicle occurrence on Berford Street in Wiarton, ON, in the Town of South Bruce Peninsula.

Police were advised that people were yelling at pedestrians from a (silver) car as they drove around the Town of Wiarton. Police patrolled the area and located the involved vehicle and spoke to the occupants.

During the investigation, all of the occupants inside the vehicle were arrested for several criminal offences.

Grey Bruce OPP have charged a 23 year old from Owen Sound, ON with the following offences:

-Unauthorized possession of a weapon, section 91(2) Criminal Code of Canada (CC)

-Two counts of failure to comply with release order, section 145(5)(a) CC

-Possession of break in instruments, section 351(1) CC

-Possession of a Schedule 1 substance – Methamphetamine, section 4(1) Controlled Drugs and Substance Act (CDSA)

-Two counts of possession of a Schedule 1 substance – other drugs, section 4(1) CDSA

The accused was held for a bail hearing in Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on October 19, 2020.

Grey Bruce OPP have also charged a 42 year old from Owen Sound, ON with the following offences:

-Occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was prohibited or restricted weapon, section 94 CC

-Possession of break in instruments, section 351(1) CC

-Possession of a Schedule 1 substance – Methamphetamine, section 4(1) CDSA

-Two counts of possession of a Schedule 1 substance – other drugs, section 4(1) CDSA

The accused was released on an Undertaking and is required to attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on December 3, 2020.

Grey Bruce OPP have also charged a 45 year old from Owen Sound, ON with the following offences:

-Unauthorized possession of a weapon, section 91(2) CC

-Two counts of failure to comply with release order, section 145(5)(a) CC

-Possession of break in instruments, section 351(1) CC

-Possession of a Schedule 1 substance – Methamphetamine, section 4(1) CDSA

-Two counts of possession of a Schedule 1 substance – other drugs, section 4(1) CDSA

-Occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was prohibited or restricted weapon, section 94 CC

-Two counts of driving a motor vehicle while under suspension, section 53(1) Highway Traffic Act

 The accused was released on an Undertaking and is required to attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on December 3, 2020.

IMPAIRED DRIVER STUCK IN FIELD

(SOUTH BRUCE PENINSULA, ON) – On October 16, 2020 at 6:15 p.m., Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched to a traffic complaint involving a (black) car stuck in mud at a property near the intersection of William Street and McNaughton Street, in the Town of South Bruce Peninsula. 

Grey Bruce OPP officers attended and observed the driver with signs of impairment. The driver was arrested for impaired driving by drug and was transported to the Grey Bruce OPP detachment in Wiarton. A Drug Recognition Expert completed an evaluation with this driver.

As a result of this investigation, Grey Bruce OPP have charged a 44 year old from South Bruce Peninsula, ON with the following offences,

-Operation of a motor vehicle while impaired by drugs, section 320.14(1)(a) Criminal Code of Canada (CC)

-Possession of a Schedule 1 substance – Methamphetamine, section 4(1) Controlled Drugs and Substance Act

-Failing to comply with a Probation Order, section 733.1(1) CC

The involved vehicle was towed and will be impounded for 7 days.

 The accused was held for a bail hearing in the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on October 17, 2020.

SEVERAL DRIVERS CHARGED FOR STUNT DRIVING

Between October 9th and October 11th, 2020, Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) charged four motorists with stunt driving – 50km/h or more over the posted speed limit, contrary to section 172(1) Highway Traffic Act (HTA) in Grey and Bruce Counties. 

(NORTHERN BRUCE PENINSULA, ON) – On October 10th, 2020 at 3:10 p.m. on Highway 6, near Lawrence Road, in the Municipality of Northern Bruce Peninsula, a 58 year old of Richmond Hill, ON was travelling over 135 km/h in a (black) car in this posted 80 km/h zone.

All of the drivers were issued Provincial Summons for court, a seven day drivers licence suspension and their vehicles were towed and will be impounded for seven days.

The Grey Bruce OPP want to remind motorists that excessive speed is one of the leading causes of deaths on our highways.

STUNT DRIVER REMOVED FROM HIGHWAY 6

OPP have charged 210 stunt drivers, between Wiarton and Tobermory

(SOUTH BRUCE PENINSULA, ON) On October 3, 2020 at 9:50 p.m. Grey Bruce OPP stopped a (white) van on Highway 6, near Greig Settlement Road, in South Bruce Peninsula that was travelling over 150 kilometres per hour (km/h) in this posted 80 km/h speed limit.

Grey Bruce OPP have charged a 42 year old from Brampton, ON with stunt driving – 50km/h or more over the posted speed limit, contrary to section 172(1) Highway Traffic Act (HTA).

The accused was issued a provincial summons to attend court, a seven day drivers licence suspension and their vehicle was towed and will be impounded for seven days.

In 2019, Grey Bruce OPP charged 190 drivers with stunt driving on Highway 6, between Wiarton and Tobermory. In 2020, to date, officers have charged 210 drivers with stunt driving on the same stretch of highway.

Grey Bruce OPP are asking the public to report any excessive speeding and aggressive driving observed on Highway 6, as well as any other highways throughout Grey and Bruce Counties.

STUNT DRIVER CHARGED ON BRUCE PENINSULA

(NORTHERN BRUCE PENINSULA, ON) On October 2, 2020 at 8:03 p.m., Grey Bruce OPP stopped a (white) sport utility vehicle on Highway 6, near Pike Bay Road, in Northern Bruce Peninsula that was travelling over 150 kilometres per hour (km/h) in this posted 80 km/h speed limit.

Grey Bruce OPP have charged a 28 year old from Toronto, ON with stunt driving – 50km/h or more over the posted speed limit, contrary to section 172(1) Highway Traffic Act.

The accused was issued a provincial summons to attend court, a seven day drivers licence suspension and their vehicle was towed and will be impounded for seven days.

PERSON ENTERS WRONG HOUSE AND FALLS ASLEEP 

(NORTHERN BRUCE PENINSULA, ON) – On October 3, 2020 at 8:23 a.m., Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched to a residence at Miller Lake Shore Road in the Municipality of Northern Bruce Peninsula.

The home owners advised that an unknown person had entered their home and was currently sleeping inside the residence.

Grey Bruce OPP attended this residence and located an intoxicated person, still at the scene. Officers observed a door at the residence which had been forced open, breaking the door frame.

As a result of this investigation, Grey Bruce OPP have charged a 26 year old from Toronto, ON with Mischief, under $5,000., section 430(4) Criminal Code of Canada.

The accused was released on an Appearance Notice and will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on November 5, 2020.
