YMCA of Owen Sound
Grey Bruce Settlement Services
Newly established Grey Bruce Settlement Services brings a full range of settlement services to rural areas in which no formal services currently exist and where lack of transportation may be a barrier for many newcomers. Using a “mobile” service delivery model, staff will travel as needed to meet with clients in their own communities to assist them in accessing the services, supports, and connections needed for successful integration in Canada.
The YMCA of Owen Sound Grey Bruce, in partnership with Welcoming Communities Grey Bruce, has secured funding through Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) to establish Settlement Services in Grey and Bruce Counties. These services will support newcomers to effectively settle, integrate, and call Grey-Bruce their home.
Settlement Workers at the YMCA are available to answer questions and help eligible individuals find resources within their community to make settlement easier. A few examples of services offered include: information about life in Canada and the community in which they will settle; language training (LINC); help finding a job; immigration and citizenship; navigating the health and education system; as well as, community connections throughout Grey and Bruce counties.
The program will offer free supports to individuals who are: permanent residents without Canadian citizenship; in the process of getting their permanent resident status (with IRCC letter); convention refugees; and protected persons. Anyone not eligible for these services will be connected to other programs within the community.
Currently, Grey Bruce Settlement Services are using various online platforms such as Zoom, WhatsApp, and Facebook, along with email and phone to support newcomers. When offices (945 3rd Ave East, Owen Sound, ON N4K 2K8) re-open, walk-ins will be welcomed. To make an appointment or to refer an eligible client please call Grey Bruce Settlement Services at 519-379-5535 or email email@example.com
