SPARK project groups are up and running in Tobermory and Lion’s Head. Remember this is the project, facilitated by TMP, where seasonal workers, those seeking work alternatives, and others who care about the employment landscape are working together to build community assets for workers. The ideas are coming fast and furious but the hard work is weeding out what ideas are feasible to develop within the resources of our community. As ideas take shape project participants will report on these to the community and other stakeholders.

The $$ & Sense Club is starting up for 4 weeks beginning March 10th, 10:30 am – 12:30pm. The invitation is out for anyone interested to join. Just call The Meeting Place at 519-596-2313. The group is a hands on experience, combining wise food shopping, interesting meal planning and cooking fabulous dishes together. Everyone gets to take home a prepared, nutritious meal for the whole family every Tuesday. It’s getting into later winter and some families and individuals are finding they may be more financially stretched until seasonal work starts. What better time to make your food budget stretch and have some fun with others who care.

Community Kitchens, which is a different program than $$ & Sense, continues once a month at the Tobermory Community Centre kitchen. This year is focusing on food, cooking and cultural diversity – March 26th will be a food experience with a Persian flavour.

I’ve just decided to get back into an active routine – it will take awhile to break the winter blues and thank goodness Tobermory has a wide choice of fitness and sport activities. To name a few; Pickleball on Tuesdays, 7pm, and Sports Night on Wednesdays, 7pm – teens and adults of all ages are welcome to come to the gym at St. Edmund’s school. You have probably joined the mini gym at The Meeting Place but can’t remember the last time you were there. Grab a friend and sign in (almost) any time; and it’s free.

I’m finishing this quick run down with a reminder that anyone needing community information or resources for themselves or the family can make an appointment with Jennifer at The Meeting Place. This is a confidential service. Getting information is a good start to accomplishing things you might need to do. Phone 519-596-2313 or e-mail meetingplace@amtelecom.net
