The Peninsula Bruce Trail Club is inviting hikers to explore the world through a new Friendship Hike mini-series launching June 6.

The three-part hiking series, taking place on June 6, August 15 and September 26 celebrates global trail connections, encourages environmental stewardship and promotes cultural understanding.

The first hike coincides with International Trails Day, also known as World Trails Day, an international celebration highlighting trails, sustainable tourism and active outdoor activities.

The Bruce Trail Conservancy is a founding member of the World Trails Network, which connects trail organizations and advocates from around the globe. Through the Friendship Trails initiative, the Conservancy partners promote public footpaths and strengthen global connections.

Two of the Bruce Trail’s International Friendship Trails are located within the Peninsula Bruce Trail Club section, one at Barrow Bay Cliffs Nature Reserve and another at Maple Cross Nature Reserve. These trails are twinned with corresponding international trails and marked with special signage celebrating the partnership.

The Bruce Trail Conservancy currently has nine Friendship Trails worldwide. Hikers who complete both the local and international paired routes can earn commemorative trail badges through the Conservancy.

The first Friendship Hike takes place June 6 at 9:30 a.m. at Barrow Bay Cliffs Nature Reserve. Participants will complete a 6.5-kilometre loop hike along a section of trail twinned with England’s Cotswold Way.
