Bruce Peninsula Hospice sponsored an amazing workshop on November 18th at Bruce Peninsula District School (BPDS) in Lion’s Head. The speaker was Keri-Lyn Durant, and the topic was “Supporting Children and Youth with Dying, Death and Loss”. Keri-Lyn is the Coordinator for Child and Youth Grief and Bereavement and holds her B. Ed, PhD and continues to do research in these topics.

It’s safe to say that most people back away from conversations regarding Dying and Death, but, sooner or later, we will all need to deal with it. These conversations with children and youth are extra difficult and it’s very important to prepare for their questions. Keri-Lyn shared, “If we’re old enough to love, we’re old enough to grieve.”

It is interesting how the common or standard explanations of dying and death are interpreted by the young mind. Thankfully, there are people like Keri-Lyn available to offer support and guidance with these most challenging events.

Thanks to Keri-Lyn and Bruce Peninsula Hospice for this very informative evening.
