Re: Priorities and Future Partnership Discussions
Mayor McIver welcomed MPP Rick Byers to the December 19, 2022 Council Meeting.
Members of Council engaged in introductions to MPP, Rick Byers.
Members of Council and MPP Rick Byers engaged in discussions surrounding the priorities held for the Municipality of Northern Bruce Peninsula.
The following was noted:
· Discussion ensued regarding the critical need for a public water system in Tobermory.
· Discussion ensued regarding the capacity limits of infrastructure located within the Municipality in relation to the increasing seasonal populations.
· Discussion ensued regarding the ongoing Water and Wastewater Master Plan which is scheduled for completion in 2023.
· Discussion ensued regarding the sustainability of funding for essential infrastructure developments by ratepayers in the Municipality of Northern Bruce Peninsula. It was further noted that partnerships with organizations will be critical to facilitate essential infrastructure developments for a rural area quickly becoming a seasonal hotspot in Canada.
· Discussion ensued regarding the need for heightened and consistent responses from the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario (MTO) with respect to the crucial installation of a traffic light at the intersection of Highway #6 and Hay Bay Road in Tobermory.
· Discussion ensued regarding the need for upgraded equipment for the Municipality of Northern Bruce Peninsula Fire Departments.
· Discussion ensued regarding the need for Northern Designation or recognition that the Northern Bruce Peninsula does not have services accustomed to urban centres.
MPP, Rick Byers, responded to each priority denoted by members of Council and asked for further clarification and background on several items.
It was noted that MPP, Rick Byers, is currently gathering information pertaining to the model and funding approach of the Golden Dawn Senior Citizens Home located in Lion’s Head to facilitate future funding opportunities for the organization.
It was noted that the Golden Dawn Senior Citizens Home provides a vital service to our community.
Mayor McIver thanked MPP Rick Byers for his delegation on behalf of Council and staff.

Re: 2023 Community Funding
Discussion ensued on the eligibility criteria associated with the 2023 Community Grants.
The following was noted on discussions surrounding 2023 Community Funding applications:
Line 12 – Crime Stoppers of Grey Bruce – Reduced to a $1000 grant
Line 18 – Lion’s Head Fire Fighter’s Association – Removed from the 2023 Community funding process
Line 20 – Lion’s Head Pickle Ball – Reduced to a $500 grant
Line 24 – Northern Bruce Theatre – Reduced to an in-kind grant
Line 25 – Peninsula Community Development Initiative – Reduced to a $1000 grant
Line 26 – Peninsula Pollinators Partnership – Reduced to a $500 grant
Line 29 – Rural Brand Guru Inc – Determined that the submission does not meet eligibility criteria
Line 31 – Sources of Knowledge – Reduced to a $1000 grant
Line 33 – St. Johns Ambulance – Determined that the submission does not meet eligibility criteria
Line 38 – Tobermory Pickleball – Reduced to a $750 grant
Line 39 – Walk of Healing/ Truth and Reconciliation Group – Reduced to a $1000 grant
Line 40 – Wiarton and District Agricultural Fall Fair – Determined that the submission does not meet eligibility criteria
Chief Administrative Officer, Peggy Van Mierlo-West, to contact the Lion’s Head Fire Fighters Association regarding their exclusion from the 2023 Community Funding process.

It was noted that the information contained within the survey section of the report on page 11 does not accurately reflect the priorities expressed by members of Council during the Strategic Planning Workshop on November 30, 2022.
