In The Garden: Hints From A Mrs. Gardener – Happy Garden = Happy Mrs. Gardener

Our gardens look like they are all on steroids, they are exploding!

Loving the look of the back of the garden now. There were two Balsam trees there from the get go and I don’t know why I let them grow? So our Son got out the trimmers etc. and away we went. Some dead branches, as well as an ugly branch from an otherwise pretty Birch, all made for good firewood. I can’t believe how the back of the garden looks now. It has opened it up, but still looks so natural. I never took much notice to the spot those Balsam were and now that they’re gone the little garden there is sure looking showy and the pretty rock that was hidden is really noticeable. Funny how just a few things can make a big change.

I have been busy taking in some gardens, moving the rocks and making the paths a bit wider. I must do them all now as I’m really liking the way they look. Geez Woman, do you remember how old you are?

Now that there is more light there out the back I will need some sun loving plants. Anyone want to trade some Hostas for some Sunshine plants?

Susanne was asking about her Hostas in pots not doing too well; slow growing and just not as pretty. With container gardening, especially Hostas, I have found they do not like a container that is too large. I have a Hosta that is growing out of her pot and she is stunning. Depending on the growth pattern of an individual Hosta, I don’t  like to put a Hosta (or any plant really) in a container that is too large, unless you put them in a pot in the pot. This is a good way to plant  in a container that is really too large; more than one can go in as well.

I did that in some pots last year and they  flourished. Extra large container with a smaller potted Hosta and some impatiens – they really looked quite nice. The impatients are long gone but the Hostas are doing great. Still. Soooo.

“You don’t stop gardening when you get too old, you get old when you stop”.

Saw this quote somewhere and liked it.

Happy Gardening,
