We have been to Tobermory several times. Nature’s beauty has attracted us to go there again and again. But on this recent trip, we were more impressed and touched by the people in Tobermory.
While visiting Tobermory Village from the GTA June 30th with an RV Motor Home for camping the July 1st weekend, we stopped in town to eat at Shipwreck Lee’s. While at the restaurant our teenage girl accidently dropped the keys into the storm drain in the road underneath the RV. There were no spare keys with us and we were stranded.
Our server at Shipwreck Lee’s immediately responded to our dilemma and spoke with Rick from Blue Heron Cruises who promptly came over to see if he could help in any way. We investigated the storm drain with a flashlight and saw there was water about 4 feet below. Rick said he would try to produce something we might be able to fish with, and possibly hook the keys. A few minutes later he came back with a hooked steel rod he had formed and attached to a pole with a handle.
We started trying to fish below for the keys, and while having difficulty, Adam from Shipwreck Lee’s came over and asked if he could help. He said that this kind of stuff is his “thing”, so we happily handed Adam the pole hook and he went to work. Within minutes Adam successfully fished the keys from the storm sewer. They saved our vacation! The team effort, dedicated support and generosity of this level from total strangers was awesome. Even Michelle who was serving at the time in the restaurant said she would say a prayer for us to get the keys back.
Rick from Blue Heron Cruises, Brandon, Adam, and Michelle from Shipwreck Lee’s were Tobermory’s heroes that day, and we will never forget how well we were treated. It was truly amazing!
Thank you very much,
J Li
