On Tuesday June 2nd, students in Ms. Rosenburg’s grade 7/8 class got to participate in a reach ahead experience made possible by Bluewater District School Board and funding through the Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) program in the Environment. Constable Adam Belanger and other members of the OPP brought the Bike Trailer to Bruce Peninsula District School (BPDS) and spent the day teaching students about bike safety, maintenance and the rules of the road.
In the morning, the grade 7/8 class got to try out the bikes, then after lunch several other classes also got to participate. Thank you to Constable Belanger and his amazing team!
We want to thank Nancy Griffen – a retired member of Grey Sauble Conservation – who came to teach the grade 7/8’s about fish species in Ontario and beyond. Students learned about the differences between various kinds of fish, discussed how to keep our waters clean and learned about different fish habitats, all while playing interactive games and activities.
Also, thank you to Mrs. E Cameron’s Work Studies class for lending a hand to the younger students.
Finally, students were treated to ice cream (and were encouraged to reduce waste by bringing their own bowl) and also went home with a steel water bottle which they can use throughout their high school careers at BPDS. It was a great opportunity made possible by the Secondary SHSM program.
