Shine 1-1 Mobile Dental Hygiene Clinic has returned to Tobermory and visited St Edmunds Public School’s junior and senior kindergarten class on May 5.
The Tobermory Health Services Auxiliary (THSA) arranged for Candace McIntyre, RHD, to bring her mobile clinic to St Edmunds to do a presentation about the importance of dental hygiene.
McIntyre showed students the importance of visiting the dentist, how to brush their teeth properly, and answered the students’ questions about how to care for their teeth. The classes also watched a video about what to expect when they visit a dentist and got to tour the mobile clinic.
As part of the dental education session, every student received a zippered bag, sewn by THSA President, Lin Gitterman. Each bag contained a new toothbrush, a tube of toothpaste, dental floss and lip balm courtesy of Maxill Dental.

The THSA said they consider bringing the mobile dental hygienist to Tobermory a tremendously successful and valuable initiative. Having McIntyre engage directly with students on dental health provides an added benefit and supports efforts to get the youth in the community more actively involved in THSA activities.
Additionally, families may choose to connect with McIntyre for ongoing dental care. The mobile clinic provides access to residents who may otherwise face logistical barriers to dental services.
Shine 1-1 Mobile Dental Hygiene Clinic will be at the Tobermory Clinic (7275 Hwy 6) on Tuesdays. Residents can view the mobile clinic schedule and make appointments with Candy by visiting https://akitu.io/rk4qK to book directly online, going to the home page and clicking on “Book Now” or by calling 519-373-3519.
