It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Glen Allen Dunham of Owen Sound and Tobermory, peacefully at Chapman House on October 6, 2025. Born in London, Ontario on April 25, 1947, Glen was the first child of World War 2 veteran Lorne Dunham and English War Bride Ruby (Seel). He attended South Secondary High School where he studied his lifetime love of music and played tuba in the school band. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Archaeology and Anthropology at Trent University and while there became a certified diver and enjoyed English Country Dancing. Glen worked for ten years as a surveyor with the Department of Highways and spent a long cold winter living in The Davey Hotel in Tobermory while surveying Highway 6. A long winter in a non-insulated, poorly heated hotel exposed to Georgian Bay winter wind convinced Glen that he would never ever set foot in Tobermory again! Then his university degree and diving experience led him to a summer job at Fathom Five Provincial Park in 1978. Now back in Tobermory he met and married local girl Holly (Smith) and became a true community member: joining the local fire department, becoming a volunteer ambulance attendant, and becoming involved in minor and old timer hockey. He and Holly lived happily in Tobermory until his retirement when they moved to Owen Sound. In retirement Glen enjoyed crosswords, reading about and playing bridge, collecting books and returning to his music career playing brass with the Owen Sound City Band. Always hockey fans Glen and Holly became season ticket holders to the Owen Sound Attack. Glen is survived by his son Barry (Summer) and his daughter Meredith (Adam) and two beautiful grandchildren Reed and Abby. Glen is also survived by his sister Judy (Gerry), brothers Jack (Kathy) and Jeff (Mary Ann (Meb)), brother-in-law Randy (Joyce), sisters-in-law Martha and Hazel, and his favourite mother-in-law Gloria Smith, along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Glen was predeceased by his parents Lorne and Ruby Dunham and his father-in-law Albert Smith. A celebration of Glen’s life was held on Thursday October 9 at the Tobermory United Church at 12 noon with visitation 1 hour prior. Following the service there was social time, story telling and lunch at the Tobermory Legion from 1 to 3 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Chapman House in Owen Sound or the Tobermory Royal Canadian Legion will be gratefully accepted. Holly, Barry and Meredith thank the wonderful care-givers at Chapman House for their support and kindness during Glen’s last few days.
