On 28 June 2025 a team of 9 cyclists on the National Ride of Hope arrived in Tobermory via the ferry at 12:45 p.m. and made their way down the Peninsula for a rest stop and meet and greet at the Ferndale Tourism office grounds.
The 7000 km cycle across Canada is to commemorate the 45th Anniversary of Terry Fox’s Marathon of Hope. Amongst the cyclists are local resident Adam Belanger and Darrell Fox, Terry’s brother.
The team left Vancouver on 9 June, departing from the bronze statues of the Terry Fox Memorial at BC Place. The cross country ride will take the team 32 days, through nine provinces and 13 cities on this epic journey. The National Ride of Hope will end in St John’s Newfoundland on July 10 2025 at the Atlantic shore where Terry began his Marathon by dipping his artificial leg in the ocean (Terry Fox Mile 0).
Supporters came out along Highway 6 to cheer the National Ride. The cyclists, their support team and police escort, were greeted by well wishers as they arrived at the Ferndale Tourist office.
Darrell Fox says he has been overwhelmed by the support on this 45 Anniversary of Terry’s Run and while the National Ride has raised over 1 million dollars, there is always the need to continue raising funds for cancer. By July 1 funds raised totaled $1,054,242.00
After a 20 minute break, the team was off to Collingwood for the night and then on to Ottawa for Canada Day.
