Letter: Canada Day Reflectionon the Bruce Peninsula

Sometimes people leave their small little hometown to go and chase their dreams in the big city. At a young age I began travelling. I saw so many places and did so many things. During my time living in Europe, some backpacking trips, and my time working on a cruise ship I got to experience so much. However, little did I know my ultimate dream that I was chasing would be found on a wooded acreage just down the road from where I was born and raised. It would be found in life’s best gift, the most rewarding dream; growing a family and raising them in a WONDERFUL community.

This Canada day I was reflecting on what a gem of a place the Bruce really is. Our neighborhood is filled with the most kind people. As I watched my son chase the bubbles around the park on Canada day I couldn’t help but have immense gratitude for what brought me home to this area to raise my children. It was the people more than the place. The way people wave to me when I’m running on the roadside, the person smiling and holding the door, the friendly faces at the small shops, and the kindness in people’s hearts.

I recently joined the Friendship Club for an activity and I am just blown away by the beautiful people I have met there. The sense of being safe and at home is nothing you can ever buy, and it is everything I’ve ever dreamt of for my children. I didn’t really know if this was something to share. However, I thought more about my love for this wonderful place, and it would be the perfect opportunity to share my gratitude and thanks towards this wonderful area we call home.

So, with that said, we are beyond lucky to be tucked away in one of the most stunning, peaceful places in the country. Thank-you to all the people in the area who have preserved the warmth and kindness.

Happy Canada Day. May you never take for granted the wonderful people and wonderful surroundings the Bruce Peninsula provides us with.

Warm regards and a hug,
