The following letter was sent to Edward Henley, Director of Corporate Services and Treasurer at Bruce County.
As a member of the Housing Committee, initiated by Municipality of Northern Bruce Peninsula to attempt to address our housing crisis, one of the main recommendations that came out of this process – which included close to two years of local consultation, as well as the expertise of our consultant – was that one of the few tools we may employ in our area to help build affordable housing for our citizens… was development charges.
The county initiating the proposed chargers basically takes this option from us locally.
As a local councillor, I strongly oppose any development charges that do not stay in our municipality, and I can assure you that our ratepayers agree with this position.
