Letter: Communities Deserve Full Disclosure on GBHS Rebranding

831

The following letter was addressed to Gary Sims, President and CEO of Grey Bruce Health Services.

Dear Mr Sims,

After reading your pronouncement regarding the rebranding of our Grey Bruce Health Services name in the Bruce Peninsula Press, I had to respond.

First I have a few questions that need an answer.

1. What portion of communities in Grey and Bruce were consulted, before this decision was made? If this did happen – when and where?

2. What is the cost of this re-branding? One can only guess, perhaps a six figure number? With the lack of funding for our broken healthcare system, how could such an initiative even be considered?

3. Who chose the name Brightshores Health System? It sounds like the name of a company. What happened to services? Driving through Markdale, one would be hard pressed to think that they might be near a hospital?

4. Where are the shores, in Markdale, Hanover and other inland hospitals?

Two comments on the above:

Some folks already have a rather uncomplimentary acronym for the Brightshores.

The name Brightshores, in my opinion, sounds like the name for a playground, a park, or heaven. Where is the creativity?

I am looking forward to a detailed response. Our communities deserve full disclosure regarding local consultation, on monies spent and who selected the name.

Respectfully yours,

Elaine White,
