The Publisher is campaigning to have trees cut down. He says the trees are ugly. In this time when trees are burning up by the tens (or is hundreds?) of thousands, or even more, no tree is ugly.
I note that the Publisher is in the business of making signs. I am reminded of a little poem by Ogden Nash.
Song of the Open Road
I think that I shall never see
A billboard lovely as a tree
Indeed, unless the billboards fall
I’ll never see a tree at all.
