February 27, 2023 – For Immediate Release: Bruce Peninsula Hospitals Foundation is pleased to announce that their annual Hooked on Health Lottery (#M756864) raised $25,000 in support of Wiarton & Lion’s Head Hospitals.
The draw took place at the Wiarton Hospital on February 24th. Sue Milne of Pike Bay is the lucky 1st place winner of $5,000; 2nd prize winner of $1,500 is Trudy Nixon Fahie of Toronto; 3rd prize winner of $1,000 is Margot Morgan of Wiarton; 4th place winner of $800 is Michelle McCutcheon of Georgian Bluffs, and 5th prize winner of $500 is Paula Masterson of Caledon.
The Hooked on Health proceeds will be supporting technology that will mean a big change for cancer patients who arrive in our Emergency Departments needing urgent care. Powerchart for Oncology electronically stores oncology- related patient information in their health records. The treating physician will be able to quickly and easily access the patient’s oncology notes on medications, treatment, etc. Currently, the ED physician must request a consult with the oncologist to get the patient’s oncology notes, but soon these notes will be readily available. This will be a seamless process for hospital staff, and aid in faster diagnosis and more timely care for patients.
The lottery proceeds have finished off BPHF’s efforts to raise the funds for Powerchart for Oncology for both Wiarton and Lion’s Head Hospitals.
“Once again, we are so grateful to everyone who has enthusiastically supported our hospitals by purchasing tickets, and especially to all of our Family Physicians from the Sauble Health Team, the South Bruce Peninsula Family Health Organization, and the Peninsula Family Health Team for generously supporting the cash prizing for this lottery,” said April Patry, Executive Director of BPHF.
