Here it is the end of October and all my hanging baskets and planters are still looking good. Dragon Wing Begonias in them all and they put on a beautiful show all summer long and most still look good. I sure know what I’m going with next year.
I also planted some in the front patio planters where I had removed some Hostas and they immediately exploded and stayed looking good. (Still do) Love those Begonias – looks great all summer and no deadheading. They do so well in the part shade of our patio and in the hanging baskets in the yard. They’re not a big fan of the sun, like all begonias. Once they’re finished, out they go, and I’m filling the pots with some greenery from the annual trimming of the evergreens to take up the slack. They will be dressed up for the season come December with some pretty red bows. The Begonias then get chopped up and into the garden composter they go – they will fertilise the garden of 2023/24.
All the backyard gardens are ready for their “long winters nap”. I just walk away from it after the bling has been put away, so it is ready for its well earned nap for sure – it is time for the front only to shine, while the back takes a well deserved nap.
My front garden at the north side has been a thorn in my side for well too long, so I enlisted Cheri @ And Rod to give me a hand with it. Oh my that girl works like I did 20 some years ago! It is weeded and just waiting for some compost and it’s ready to go. Some early bling – a couple of Giant Hostas will be calling that garden home, as well as some sun/part shade plants. It is going to be a Kick A– garden, complete with a large rock border and a fix put on the fence.
Now on to my much neglected indoor garden… my Cactus are blooming – guess they are Fall Cactus… well two are, one is still debating… but I did notice just this morning a couple of buds coming out on it as well… hmm.
So glad I remembered to bring in my Spider Plant this year before it got icicles dripping on her nose, surprised she survived last year’s neglect – tough gal she is. She is in need of a larger pot now, but these gals don’t take too well to a transplant so I will try and wait till the new year when she won’t have too long to wait to get back outside again.
Can’t believe I am thinking of greenery, red bows and snow when just the other day we were sitting on the glider enjoying the little birds and our morning coffee.
Enjoy the season folks.
Happy Gardening (indoors),
Joni
