Up here on the Bruce Peninsula we are so fortunate, not only to have two local grocery stores; Peacock’s in Tobermory and Hellyer’s in Lion’s Head, but also two very well equipped nurseries to help us out with our gardening needs. Whether it be veggies, perennials, or bright feel good annuals, they are also available for us.
Peninsula Out of Doors in Ferndale and Earth Bound Gardens in Red Bay have both made it easy to call in our orders for pick up like the grocery stores have. Must start my list!
Having left all my gardens last fall instead of cleaning and cutting them back, they sure are a messy bunch. However, I have been dealing with them one at a time – cutting back the dead, picking up branches, gently raking and sweeping. I have a “garden only” composter all these scraps go in out back. It does give me compost, just a lot slower, and the critters don’t find it appealing.
So, I will follow the sun around, wheelbarrow full of gardening clean up tools, trying to forget for awhile what is going on in the world. Weather permitting, I will find one of those cozy sunny sitting areas and coffee in one hand, garden gloves in the other, taking deep breaths and zoning out in my garden.
Stay Safe and Happy Gardening,
Joni
