July 6, 2021 – On behalf of the Bruce Peninsula Hospitals Foundation team, it is my pleasure to share an announcement regarding a special gift for the Lion’s Head Hospital.

Recently, Bev Miller shared with her in laws, Kevin & Sandy Walsh, that she wished to donate $5,000 in memory of her father Alfred “the Great” Savage to Bruce Peninsula Hospitals Foundation. Being a BPHF board member, Kevin saw an opportunity to take this gift one step further. “Recently, BPH Foundation has revised the minimum investment policy for named endowments from $30,000 to $5,000,” Kevin Walsh says. “It makes it very doable for ordinary families like ours.”

The initial $5,000 opens the fund, donations are added to that and the interest is reinvested in the fund. Once the fund reaches $10,000, the interest then starts funding medical equipment annually. As more donations are made the principal grows but is never used, just the interest. That is how an endowment fund “Keeps on Giving.”

“The Lion’s Head Hospital has provided for our family, joyous beginnings of life and comfortable, caring end of life services and even patched some of us up along the way,” says Bev Miller, adding “we all hope that future generations living on the Peninsula will continue to enjoy the benefits of a well-equipped hospital – right here, close to home. We established the Super Dads Endowment Fund – in Memory of Alfred Savage and Robert Miller. The goal is to help provide a strong financial base for the Lion’s Head Hospital to keep it up-to-date and viable while creating a legacy in honour of two men who were not only very special to our families, but cherished members of the Miller Lake community” she adds.

Other members of the Savage and Miller families quickly followed Bev’s lead by contributing to the fund, which reached $10,000 in no time.

Sandy Walsh commented “the fund has potential to make a real difference for healthcare here on the Peninsula. The Bruce is home to many of us, and has given us a great way of life. Let’s give back!!!!”

Part of your legacy, a named endowment is a deeply personal statement about who you are or the impact a loved one has had on your life, as well as your belief in exceptional rural healthcare at the centre of a vital community.

The Foundation welcomes the establishment of named endowments, as well as named funds specific to Lion’s Head or Wiarton Hospitals. If you would like to learn more about creating a named endowment visit www.bphfoundation.com or call the BPHF office at (519) 534-5856.
