In The Garden: Hints From A Mrs Gardener

Spring is Getting Closer!

Submitted by Joan Regan

The sun is shining, the clocks are changed, Spring is getting closer! However, I am having a hard time getting too excited with all that white stuff still hanging around. I want to see green!

I have started to make up my wants and to do list. It will change daily, as always, but it is fun thinking about Spring.

Not as much to do this Spring thanks to a good clean and tidy up last Fall. I also put in a smaller potting station – just an antique wheelbarrow, already with drainage holes provided by Mother Nature – it is full of soil with mulch and homemade compost mixed in and it will be ready to go. Most of the paths out the back were tidied up last year – each one has been tightened up, making the paths all a bit wider and easier to maneuver around, especially with a wheelbarrow.

I always say come Spring “I’m cutting back”. Ya sure.

Last Summer and into Fall I painted a few pots a nice bright red and they’re just waiting for some soil and a few of the smaller Hostas (bunny food). They’ll be hung up and some popped in the garden for some colour. Love my shady gardens, but also like some colour and this seems to do the trick where colour is needed.

All my house plants have been given a shot of fertiliser and some fresh soil worked in to the existing soil. I have already apologized to them for the neglect they will have to deal with for the next few months… and yes they do understand… they will be there waiting come the Fall and so happy to have Mom back.

BUT for now, I am thinking Gardening and counting the days till I get dirty and get outside to play.

HAPPY GARDENING,

Joni
