BPDS Hosts Elephant Thoughts Workshops
Submitted by Brenda Brewer, Principal, and Breanna Heels, Vice-Principal
By the time you read this, it will be June. Remember what I said about Apr-May-June?! I have no idea where April and May went, but I definitely don’t mind the warmer and sunnier weather we have been having!
The Outers have just spent a week in Algonquin on a canoe trip (thanks to Ms. Myles and Dr. Laing for leading that!), and all of our secondary students are currently at the annual (and by annual, it hasn’t happened for a couple years, but it’s back!) Footprints Conference at the Bruce Peninsula National Park.
Elementary students are currently doing Badminton, and will soon be doing Track and Field. We also just had Marissa, Mason and James represent BPDS at CWOSSA Track and Field! The Grade 7-8 class will be at Celtic next week for their end of the year trip as well!
Elephant Thoughts Workshops
Elephant Thoughts (www.elephantthoughts.com) is a charity that provides educational programs that promote global citizenship, environmental sustainability, and quality education. BPDS was fortunate enough to host them for a couple weeks as they toured through classrooms. One week, they focused on Wacky Science workshops, and even brought a planetarium with them (see photo above right), transporting students into space. The second week, they did coding workshops in classrooms (see photo left). A special shout out to Ms. Rimay for organizing this opportunity for BPDS students!
BPDS presents ‘A Lighter Shade of Noir’
On May 12-14, the lights came up on another stellar BPDS Drama Club performance. This year’s production of ‘A Lighter Shade of Noir’ by Patrick Derksen featured a cast and crew of students from Grades 8 – 13.
Made up of a healthy mix of BPDS stage veterans and new faces, the group transported the audience into the gumshoe world of Trent Trowel, as he narrated his way through the solving of a thrilling mystery. Other notable characters included Shirley Holmes and Dr. Watson, Tracy Dyck and her faithful sidekick Officer Maloney, Jean-Louis -Phillipe Eustache and his companion Monsieur Silencieux, and Ms. Beatrice and her niece Jane. As each famous detective attempted to solve the mystery of the stolen items from the International Detectives Gala, the audience was entertained by hilarious action, ‘evil’ villains, and a healthy narration provided by Mr. Trowel.
The cast and crew, with the support of Tara Stanton, Jessica Rice and Shannon Webb, worked diligently for three months to prepare for the production. The group would like to thank those that sponsored the production as well as the audience for their support in this venture. It was wonderful for everyone to be back on the stage once again.
