Lion’s Head, Ontario, December 10, 2021 – Plans for the Lion’s Head Arena and Community Centre renovations continue to move forward, as the Municipality of Northern Bruce Peninsula moves on to the public consultation phase of the project.

“The Arena renovations are a long time coming, after years of planning and persistent funding applications in 2012, 2015 and now finally in 2019,” said Mayor McIver. “We are proud to have successfully secured funding, but Council understands the need to ensure these plans are up to date. We all look forward to hearing what the community has to say.”

The Municipality is committed to working with the Arena users, community organizations, and the public, to ensure the final plans for the arena reflect the needs of the community moving forward. While there is a limited budget, the Municipality has hired an engineering firm and will be hiring an architect to draw up revised plans.

“It’s terrific to see the Lion’s Head Community Centre and Arena project moving forward. The funding from the Community, Culture and Recreation Infrastructure Stream of the Investing in Canada program demonstrates our government’s commitment to making our communities stronger. This project will positively impact the health and well-being of the entire community and I’m looking forward to the planned renovations being completed as quickly as possible so that people may enjoy,” said Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound MPP Bill Walker.

“I am always encouraged to see partnerships between the Federal, Provincial, and Municipal governments benefitting our communities. I know the renovations have been long awaited, and I am thrilled to see the funding successfully secured for this project. Community centers and areas are cornerstones of our rural communities, and I look forward to seeing how the investment will positively impact Lion’s Head and the surrounding area,” said Alex Ruff, Member of Parliament (MP) for Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound.

Additionally, McQueen Galloway and Associates (MGA), the consultant working with the Municipality on updating the Parks and Recreation Master Plan, will be leading community conversations, specifically focussed on the arena.

During the week of January 3-7, 2022 MGA will be doing 1:1 interviews with Arena and Community Centre users as part of the MNBP Parks and Recreation Master Plan. Building on these conversations, a series of focus groups will be taking place in-person the evening of January 10, 2022 at the Rotary Hall to specifically discuss the layout of the arena.

If you would like to be considered for participation in the focus groups, please contact Tracey McQueen at tracey@fjgalloway.ca. Please provide your name, email, phone number and indicate how you currently use the arena.
