Bruce Peninsula OPP Report: OPP Lay Murder Charge In Northern Bruce Peninsula Death

(NORTHERN BRUCE PENINSULA, ON) – The Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has identified the deceased individual in this investigation as 36-year-old Christina YADRAM of Toronto.

On October 10, 2021, at approximately 3:00 p.m., officers from the Grey Bruce OPP responded to a death near Scugog Lane. Officers located a deceased female in a wooded area. The Grey Bruce OPP Crime Unit commenced an investigation under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB).

On October 11, 2021, the OPP arrested and charged 32-year-old Wazhir GAFOOR of Shelburne with First Degree Murder under Section 235(1) of the Criminal Code. The accused was remanded in custody, with an appearance scheduled before the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on October 22, 2021.

Investigators believe this to be an isolated incident and there is no concern for public safety.

MISSING PERSON SEARCH – Canoeist Found Deceased 

(NORTHERN BRUCE PENINSULA, ON) – On October 4, 2021 at approximately 3:15 p.m., the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Under Water Search and Recovery Unit (USRU) located a missing canoeist in Dyers Bay that had been reported missing on October 3rd.

On October 3, 2021 at approximately 3 p.m., Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Bruce Peninsula Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and the Northern Bruce Peninsula Fire Department were dispatched to canoeists in distress near Dyers Bay Road, in the Municipality of Northern Bruce Peninsula.

One occupant was transported to a local area hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Emergency personnel and members of the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) Trenton remain on scene until the second occupant was found.

Members of the public were told to expect an increased presence in and around the Dyers Bay area.

The deceased has been identified as 24-year-old Steven SHANTZ of St. Clements.

Members of the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) Trenton, West Region OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT), and the OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit assisted with the search.

MOTORIST CHARGED WITH STUNT DRIVING

(SOUTH BRUCE PENINSULA, ON) On October 3, 2021 at approximately 11:30 a.m., Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop on Highway 6, in the Town of South Bruce Peninsula.

Grey Bruce OPP stopped the vehicle after it was found to be travelling at over 150 kilometers per hour (km/h) in a posted 80 km/h speed limit zone.

Grey Bruce OPP have charged a 66 year old from Guelph with Stunt Driving – 50km/h or more over the posted speed limit, contrary to Section 172(1) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA).

The accused was issued a provincial summons to attend court, along with a 30 day driver’s licence suspension. 

The individual’s vehicle was towed and will be impounded for 14 days.
