Letter: Reconsider New “Area Closed at 9PM” Signs

1685

At the lake Huron end of Burma Road in the Township of Eastnor of the Municipality of Northern Bruce Peninsula there is a boat launch ramp and a long concrete dock jutting into the water. This is a public dock open to everyone at all times of the year.

People come here to swim, go boating, relax and look at the scenery and sunsets. On frequent evenings this area is used for star gazing and waiting for the possible appearance of Aurora Borealis.

Alas, right now there is a huge 16 square foot sign boldly depicting ‘AREA CLOSED AT 9PM’ (and other rules of No Camping, No Fires, No Littering, and No Fireworks).

AREA CLOSED AT 9PM? I am flabbergasted! Who on earth would have initiated such a regulation? Remember, if you order an area ‘closed’ it means that you are not allowed to go there, and that means ‘nobody!’. Do we want this type of curfew in the Northern Bruce?

This public dock has always been open. Only after 9PM can you see the stars and constellations. This is the only place you can go to look at the complete sky; there are no trees!

For the past 29 years I have enjoyed the wonders of nature from the dock area. Am I now not allowed to go there after the stroke of Nine?

I suggest to the MNBP to kindly correct this situation.
