Letter: Proud of The Meeting Place’s Good Food Option

663

I was thrilled to read in the Bruce Peninsula Press of The Meeting Place’s new program Good To Go and their recognition as a member of the Canada’s Good Food Organization network.

Thus far, our family has enjoyed two meals: the Mushroom, Squash Risotto and the Red Pepper Lentil soup. Each meal kit feeds four people or more. Our risotto meal lasted my husband and I for 3 generous meals. YUM! Both meals were extremely easy to put together since we were provided with paper bags and glass jars with almost all necessary ingredients. We had to provide our own salt and broth cubes (although water could be substituted). The ingredients come with a printed form of the recipe, but you can also click on the website www.tobermorymeetingplace.com to check out the food programs. There you will find a pdf copy of the recipe which you can print up if you do not sign up for a meal kit. There is also a simple, easy to follow video of how to make the meal.

It could not be easier or more fun! All the recipes that I have seen so far have been super simple. Lots of options are offered for where to get ingredients if you are repeating the recipe in the future. Also, options of what tools one can use if making this meal in your own home.

Options are the path for Good To Go!

First of all, you can sign up for a meal kit and make a donation to The Meeting Place, suggestion of $4-$20 ($12) per meal. You can make this donation by e-transfer or cash at pickup.

The main pickup location is The Meeting Place in Tobermory on Thursday mornings, but organizers have also provided a Wednesday afternoon pickup in Ferndale for Lion’s Head residents and those south, and at the Miller Lake Rona on Highway 6.

Donations can also take the form of becoming a community chef and providing a recipe or by offering your time to help pack food or hand out meal kits.

Another option: you do not have to get all of the meals for a given month. I do not like polenta, so passed on that choice. Also, I love lamb and made the arayes on my own as soon as I could! Delicious! You can choose 1-4 of the meal kits in any month.

Lastly, even if you do not sign up for a meal kit, organizers are generously providing the recipe and video at no cost on The Meeting Place website.

Special Bonus: You get to see a video of your own dear friends cooking. March’s newest community chef is John Haselmayer, the Superintendent of Bruce Peninsula National Park, who is an excellent cook !

It is easy to sign up. The application form is on the Good to Go website. You just give your name, address, phone number and email address so that you can get all the notifications.

The Bruce Peninsula leads the way once again! Providing healthy good food choices for all of us living here in this beautiful land. Many thanks and much gratitude to the creative and hardworking Good To Go team! Bravo from all of us who love to eat well!
